Within the framework a research contract, DCNS asked to CLARTE to study a new mode of representation of the tactical situation thanks to virtual reality. The idea resulting from a common deliberation between DCNS and CLARTE is to use the potentials of virtual reality to facilitate the comprehension of a theatre of naval operations by developing new concepts of visualization 3D and man-machine interaction. |

SITAC 3D presents a virtual theatre of naval operations, which can be uses for different aims et by different actors. |
|
SITAC 3D is based on 3 technological principles:
 A tool for visualization in relief, based on the concept of the workbench, double screen able to adapt the images posted to the real point of view of the operator thanks to a system of tracking.
 - Representation in 3D of the tactical situation in real-time when the different mobiles of the naval and air components are represented in symbolic form or of pawn 3D. The theatre is broken up into different layers according to environment and altitude: submarine, surface, air. This mode of representation enables to clarify the situation considerably.
 A specific peripheral for a more effective and more natural interaction with the theatre of operations. The fingers of the user equipped with sensors are compared to a pointer.
